The Search panel in Firefox OptionsPreferencesSettings lets you customize your search options. You can add or remove search engines, change your default search engine, assign or change keyword shortcuts, turn the search bar on or off, and choose whether to display search suggestions first or not at all.
As you type into the search bar or the address bar, your default search engine shows you suggestions based on popular searches or on your previous searches. See Search suggestions in Firefox for more information.
To remove alternative search engines you don't want to be displayed in the search bar or address bar, remove the check mark next to the search engine listed in the Search panel under Search Shortcuts. This will not remove the search engines themselves.
Firefox comes with a number of available search engines by default. Many websites offer search engines that you can add to Firefox. This allows you to search with that website's search engine, directly from your Firefox address bar or Search bar. This article explains how to add or remove the search engines that Firefox uses.
The Mycroft Project website offers search engine plugins. When you click on an available search plugin, you can add it to Firefox from the Search bar or from the address bar context menu, on the Install plugin page.
If you remove a search engine that you added yourself and you change your mind, you'll have to add it back again, either from the Search bar or address bar by visiting the website or by reinstalling the Search engine add-on (see above).
If you remove any of the default search engines that are built into Firefox, you'll have to go to your Firefox OptionsPreferencesSettings Search panel and click the Restore Default Search Engines button in the Search Shortcuts section to bring them back.
Here's how to change your default search engine in Windows 11. For more on Microsoft's new OS, here's what has changed since Windows 10, what we wished had been included and how you'll get the new OS.
5. If you don't find the search engine you're looking for in the list, choose Manage search engines and then tap the Add button in the upper-right corner to add the one you want.
4. If you don't see the search engine you want to use, scroll down to the bottom of the page, tap Find more search engines and search for the service you want to use.
Maybe it's not just another search engine you want to swap but another web browser too. By default, Edge is Windows 11's browser of choice. In Windows 11, the easiest way to set another browser as your default is when you install it and are prompted to make it your default browser. But if you skipped over doing it then, no worry, here's how.
You can specify the default search provider to use by enabling the rest of the default search policies. If these are left empty (not configured) or configured incorrectly, the user can choose the default provider.
Starting in Microsoft Edge 84, you can set this policy as a recommended policy. If the user has already set a default search provider, the default search provider configured by this recommended policy will not be added to the list of search providers the user can choose from. If this is the desired behavior, use the ManagedSearchEngines policy.
You can configure the new tab page search box to use "Search box (Recommended)" or "Address bar" to search on new tabs. This policy only works if you set the search engine to a value other than Bing by setting the following two policies: DefaultSearchProviderEnabled and DefaultSearchProviderSearchURL.
Note: This policy doesn't prevent the browser from navigating to any URL. Users can still navigate to any URL by using the search option in the default New Tab Page, or using any link that leads to a web search engine. To ensure that users can only go to sites you expect, consider configuring the following policies in addition to this policy:
Enables the display of relevant Microsoft Search in Bing suggestions in the address bar's suggestion list when the user types a search string in the address bar. If you enable or don't configure this policy, users can see internal results powered by Microsoft Search in Bing in the Microsoft Edge address bar suggestion list. To see the Microsoft Search in Bing results, the user must be signed into Microsoft Edge with their Azure AD account for that organization. If you disable this policy, users can't see internal results in the Microsoft Edge address bar suggestion list.Starting with Microsoft Edge version 89, Microsoft Search in Bing suggestions will be available even if Bing isn't the user's default search provider.
If you enable this policy, the second auto-suggest result in the address bar suggestion list will conduct a web search exactly as it was entered, provided that this text is a single word without punctuation. The default search provider will be used unless a policy to prevent web search is also enabled.
Bing and Google are two of the most popular search engines around. Changing your primary and default search engine from Bing to Google is easy and the process varies slightly based on the browser. Some browsers like Chrome and Firefox automatically set Google as homepage but you can always change the browser to Google if that is not the case. In addition, you can switch back to Google as your browser of choice even if you previously changed it to another option. With just a few short steps, you can set Google as your search engine regardless of the browser.
Firefox now uses Google as its default browser after several years of using Yahoo!. If you changed from Google to Bing or another search engine, it's easy to switch back to Google. To do so, open the Firefox browser and locate the menu button (three lines), then click on it. Next, scroll down to select Options and then click on Search. Locate the Default Search Engine option and select Google from the list. This will instantly make Google your default search engine in the Firefox browser.
Chrome is a Google owned browser application and Google is the default search with the factory settings. If you changed to Bing at some point and want to return the primary browser settings to Google, click the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the browser. Select Settings from the very bottom of the drop down menu. Scroll down until you see the search engine option for the search bar. Select the dropdown list and choose Google as your primary search. The bar will also show, Bing, Yahoo, Ask and AOL as options. Using Chrome with Google as the default makes sense because the browser is designed to work seamlessly on the Google platform in general.
Microsoft introduced its Edge browser with Windows 10 to replace Internet Explorer as the default search engine. Edge sets Bing as the default browser. If you want to change it to Google, first click the three dots in the upper right hand corner of your browser. In the menu, choose Advanced Settings. Underneath Search in the Address Bar, select the Change search engine button. Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google, Twitter and Yahoo Search as options. Click on Google and then select Set as default. This will change your default search engine from Bing to Google.
While Google is the popular default choice for most browsers, you can pick the one you prefer. Many browsers come preloaded with a list of other search engines to choose from, or you can add your own.
Alternatives like DuckDuckGo, a search provider dedicated to protecting your anonymity, maybe a better alternative if you have privacy concerns. This search engine is now a default choice on many privacy-focused browsers (e.g. Brave browser).
Mobile users: Open Opera and tap the logo in the bottom right of the screen, then tap Settings. Scroll until you see the Default search engine listed under Search. 2b1af7f3a8
