The Spanish Society of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine in collaboration with the Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), a member of the Catalan Biomedical Research Network (CERCA), has implemented the Epidemiological Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (EpidemIBD) in period January-April 2020-21 ( EpidemIBD ), with the objective to assess the incidence, clinical characteristics and health outcomes of subjects diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease ( IBD ) in our Country in this period. We also aim to explore the role of diagnostic and therapeutic measures in the course of these disease.
The present report includes the first 491 subjects diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC), Crohn’s disease (CD), or Ulcerative Crohn’s disease (UCD), recruited by the Epidemiological Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (EpidemIBD) (results of the first 350 recruited subjects referred to as EpidemiA) and 17 of them presenting fever higher than 37.5°C at the moment of the diagnosis. In addition, subjects with UC (n = 91) and CD (n = 60) were studied in subgroups of patients that receive corticosteroids (UC), azathioprine (PBC/UC) or biologicals (CD), defined as pharmacological groups of selective interest. A total of 134 patients with UC and 57 with CD had a biobank of peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) available for further molecular analysis, which was performed in a subgroup of these subjects (biobiobank) ( DM_Repository, due for publication ). d2c66b5586
